Project development at Theaterplatz in Aachen
The project development at Theaterplatz in Aachen aims to revitalize the square and restore it as a meeting place in the city center.
Part of the project also involves redesigning the corner building at Theaterplatz 1. Built around 1910, almost the entire upper floors of the building were destroyed during World War II. Twelve years after the war, it was rebuilt using conventional construction methods with masonry walls and concrete ceilings. A particular eye-catcher is the façade facing the theater, made of "Piedra Dorata" sandstone from Tuscany.
The building itself is not a listed building, but due to its location, it is still subject to the monument area statute. It is therefore particularly important to us to preserve its original character and ensure its sustainable, social use.
Six floors will provide 1,800 m² of living space in units of various sizes, following the POHA House co-living concept and complemented by a co-working area on the first floor. The centerpiece will be the shared space in the attic—complete with a panoramic view of the cathedral and city hall! The current tenants, Liek & Müller and the Hirsch Pharmacy, will remain on the ground floor.
