Topping-out ceremony: ecoPARK Gelsenkirchen is ahead of its time
Gelsenkirchen, February 26. ecoPARK Gelsenkirchen is ahead of its time – also in terms of construction. The topping-out ceremony for the particularly sustainable business and multi-user commercial park, which ecoPARKS GmbH is building on part of the former Schalke club grounds, was celebrated earlier than planned. While overall completion is planned for the third quarter of this year, the space will probably be available to potential tenants as early as May. A new divisible hall and modern office space are being built on a total gross floor area of around 15,800 square meters.

The project is being realized in partnership with AEW, one of the world's leading real estate investment and asset managers. Like ecoPARKS GmbH, AEW is convinced of the location's potential and has acquired the approximately 27,000 m² "ecoPARK Gelsenkirchen is also ahead of its time because it is being built in a particularly sustainable manner and can be operated in a climate-neutral way," says Jörg Kunz, managing partner at ecoPARKS. "With its excellent location between the A40 and A42 motorways – close to the city center and in the heart of the Ruhr region – it offers many advantages for companies."
The mayor of Gelsenkirchen is also convinced of this: "I am very pleased that a former problem area at this location is now being transformed into a sustainable business park with great potential, and I would like to thank everyone involved for their constructive cooperation. A forward-looking business park is being created here as a further step for Gelsenkirchen on its way to becoming a green industrial city. ecoPARK Gelsenkirchen is one of a number of initiatives and projects in the city aimed at eliminating fossil fuels and replacing them with innovative solutions."
Landmark's sister company ecoPARKS develops particularly sustainable modular commercial and industrial properties as well as business districts that can be flexibly adapted to the changing needs of users. A new divisible hall including office space is being built on the site between Europastraße and Kesselstraße using a hybrid wood construction method that can operate entirely without fossil fuels. To this end, a photovoltaic system will be installed on the entire roof, producing electricity for the building's own use and for feeding into the local grid. Heat pumps are planned for heating and cooling. The roof structures will be built using timber construction methods. The facades and roofs made from recycled building materials will be greened. The project will be designed in accordance with the BEG-40 standard and DGNB Platinum certification is being sought.
Discussions are currently underway with interested users for the two to four units, which will have 14 loading ramps, an LED lighting system, and charging stations for cars and bicycles.
