Key handover at AlphaSpace Aachen: Now it's the innovative users' turn

Less than a year and a half after the foundation stone was laid in spring, we were able to hand over the beautiful rental space in AlphaSpace Aachen to its users together with general contractor Goldbeck. After KiteLoft Cologne and BrainFactory Bochum, this is Landmarken's third Spirit Office building to go into operation and, at the same time, an important building block in the development of the Quartier Nord district between Krefelder Strasse and Gut-Damme-Strasse. The 10,000 m² modular building with six floors was completed on schedule and is fully let.

The new building, designed by Aachen-based firm pbs architekten, embodies the Spirit Office concept developed in collaboration with New York architect Matthias Hollwich. Its four pillars are community, sustainability, health, and intelligence. The concept stands for a digital building that thinks for itself, promotes health through opportunities for movement and the use of healthy materials, and strengthens the sense of community through inspiring communal areas.

Respect for nature is expressed through sustainable construction methods and smart, climate-friendly energy management. Equipped with sustainable building automation, AlphaSpace receives its power supply from a large, high-efficiency photovoltaic system. What makes it special is that it was not only installed on the green roof of the new building, but also extended to the roof of the neighboring Trüsser building.

AlphaSpace is not only one of the smartest buildings in Aachen, it also has what is perhaps the smartest tenant community in the city: In addition to Utimaco, an expert in cybersecurity solutions, Elara Leitstellentechnik GmbH, which makes Germany safer with high-performance information and communication systems for control centers, and Thinking Networks AG, a software developer for agile business planning, are also moving into the building. Cognex is an old acquaintance. The developer and manufacturer of image processing products, which is already our main tenant in the neighboring Pick-up building, is expanding at the location and will use a state-of-the-art test workshop for its innovative products in AlphaSpace.

"The intelligent Spirit Office concept is a perfect fit for Aachen as a tech location," said Landmarken project manager Jan Hilgier at the key handover. "It's great that we were able to implement it here and give such fantastic, innovative companies the space they need to remain in Aachen." So there was plenty of reason to celebrate, and that's exactly what happened: with drinks, burgers, and live music – in keeping with the spirit of a connected office.
