ecoPARKS leases 22,000 square meters in western Leipzig to technology company Skeleton

The real estate developer ecoPARKS, Monheim, has leased around 22,000 square meters to Skeleton Technologies GmbH in its new business park in Markranstädt. Of this, around 3,000 square meters are office and social areas and 19,000 square meters are for production and research. The technology company is the first major tenant at the new ecoPARKS location in western Leipzig. There, the commercial and light industrial real estate developer is constructing around 30,000 square meters of hall space and 3,500 square meters of office space on a site measuring approximately 75,000 square meters. A total of around 50 million euros is being invested in the revitalization of the formerly industrial site.

Skeleton Technology develops and manufactures high-performance storage devices, also known as "supercapacitors." These can absorb and release energy at high speed. They are primarily used in the transportation, industrial, renewable energy, and power grid sectors, as well as in the automotive industry.

On the space still available, ecoPARKS offers companies the opportunity to conduct research, manufacture, and store in a flexible and sustainably designed building. By using a photovoltaic system, tenants can also use the electricity produced on site to operate their own production facilities, for example.

Jörg Kunz, Managing Partner of ecoPARKS ( ), says: "We acquired the existing space on Görenzer Straße this spring and are now developing it into a sustainable commercial and production site. We are convinced that the new technology cluster will develop dynamically thanks to the addition of an innovative company such as Skeleton. This will provide fertile ground for the establishment of further high-tech companies. We are delighted that the ecoPARKS concept is providing a significant boost to the development of the city of Markranstädt and the entire region."

Taavi Madiberk, CEO and co-founder of Skeleton Technologies, says: "Supercapacitors are a key element in reducing CO2 emissions in the areas of power generation, transportation, and industry. We are therefore delighted to be able to multiply our production capacity at our new location in Leipzig. Our new building will thus play an important role not only for the growth of Skeleton, but also for climate protection."

Nadine Stitterich, mayor of the city of Markranstädt, says: "The establishment of Skeleton is the result of ecoPARKS' high level of initiative and investment in the industrial park on Görenzer Straße. The production of high-performance capacitors is an extraordinary gain for our city. Because this technology is the future. This sends an important signal to the automotive industry. The creation of around 400 new jobs in the city of Markranstädt is also a positive effect. It will contribute significantly to the further growth and importance of our business location."

the " ecoPARK Leipzig" is currently being built on a 75,000-square-meter brownfield site, which is the term used to describe former industrial sites. In addition to hall and office space, which are sustainably designed with wooden roof structures and photovoltaics on the roof surfaces , the building can also be equipped with heat pumps. This significantly reduces dependence on fossil fuels.

The building, designed as "KFW 40," is expected to receive DGNB Gold certification. Construction will begin in September 2022 and is scheduled to be completed by early 2024.
