Concept for innovation and technology campus in Krefeld presented
Working together for regional growth: Evonik and Landmarken AG continue to develop the Krefeld site.
Evonik has sold a 44,000-square-meter plot of land to Landmarken AG. "We were looking for a buyer who was also interested in the future-oriented development of the site," says Armin Reimann, Evonik site manager in Krefeld. "We found that buyer in Landmarken AG. Their concept for innovation, research, and development convinced us and fits perfectly into our neighborhood."
The property on the western edge of the factory premises is located in the Dießem district on Untergath, just a few minutes from the A57 motorway, southeast of the city center and in close proximity to Krefeld's main train station. Thanks to its good transport links, central location, and proximity to the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences, the site is ideal for an innovation campus where start-ups, for example, can set up shop. "The plans for the innovation campus clearly show how attractive Krefeld is as a technology-oriented business location. We are promoting precisely such settlements at the Expo and elsewhere – and these efforts are paying off," says Krefeld's mayor Frank Meyer. "In the immediate vicinity of the university, the new campus will provide a home for further modern start-ups. I am very much looking forward to the joint development of Evonik and Landmarken, which can also have positive effects on the Krefeld labor market."
"We see great development potential in Krefeld and want to create synergies by networking the university, industry, and small and medium-sized enterprises," says Norbert Hermanns. "We are grateful for the trust placed in us by the city, Evonik, and our future neighbors," continued the CEO of Landmarken AG.
The utilization concept for the Krefeld Innovation and Technology Campus envisages mixed use in the areas of research, teaching, and work, with complementary offerings such as restaurants and fitness facilities. The goal is to create the city's most modern innovation location. To this end, the site will be divided into three separate sections, the middle one of which will house the existing buildings. Discussions with potential users for the northern and southern sections are already underway. As a developer of research and knowledge-oriented neighborhoods and real estate, Landmarken AG has already made a name for itself with the Innovation Campus Bochum on the former Opel factory site and several cluster contributions to the RWTH Aachen Campus.
