C2C Summit: Shaping the Municipalities of the Future
At the C2C Summit hosted by the Cradle to Cradle NGO in Berlin on May 12, 2022, Vanja Schneider presented the Moringa Hamburg HafenCity project
“Cradle to Cradle is a key component in shaping our environment in a way that is climate- and resource-friendly. In times of material shortages, it becomes particularly clear that we can no longer afford to throw away valuable materials and how important it is to recycle used resources through a closed-loop circular economy,” said Sören Bartol, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development, and Construction, in his opening remarks at the C2C NGO Event on May 12, 2022, in Berlin.
The goal of the European Commission and the German federal government to establish a closed-loop circular economy can only be achieved if equal emphasis is placed on energy efficiency as well as climate and resource protection. The Cradle to Cradle principle provides the right approach to achieving these goals and making a significant contribution to these political visions at the local level.
During the event, various C2C-inspired buildings were presented; among others, Managing Director Vanja Schneider was invited to present our Moringa Hamburg HafenCity project.
Guided by the principle that, as part of the problem, we must also be part of the solution, the subsequent panel discussion featured an extensive exchange with Vanja Schneider ( Managing Director of Moringa GmbH and Cradle to Cradle expert), Sybille Mai (Berlin Site Manager at C2C consulting firm EPEA GmbH—part of Drees & Sommer), Bernhard Reger ( Head of Communications and Marketing at Leipfinger-Bader Ziegelwerke), and Manuel Ehlers ( Head of Sustainable Property at Triodos Bank). The discussion highlighted the key and important considerations in the planning, financing, implementation, and deconstruction of C2C-inspired construction projects.
